Description
“Jealous Aglauros’s Vision” Tote Bag
The title refers to “Aglauros’s Vision of the Bridal Chamber of Herse”. A tapestry probably designed by Giovanni da Cremona and made in the weaving workshop directed by Willem de Pannemaker, both living in Brussels. It is a story told by the Roman writer Ovidius his narrative poem, “The Metamorphoses” about the ill-fated love affair between Mercury and Herse.
The god Mercury wants to marry Herse, a mortal princess of Athens and asks her sister Aglauros to help him. Stricken with jealousy she envisions how the union of Mercury and Herse might take place.
Our print depicts mainly the central scene for practical reasons. There is a full border design (by Giovanni Penni) on the original tapestry. There was only space for a few scenes at the bottom of our bag.
